The Cranbrook Community needs clarification: Are the Trustees selling for development or not?

The Campaign Team received today an email from the Chairman of the The Cranbrook School War Memorial Playing Field Trustees. In it he says: "The Trustees of the field are not looking at selling the field for development, but have submitted the land for consideration within the Cranbrook plan for development.". What does this mean? We have replied by email as follows: On behalf of the Campaign Team and 1700 ...

Supporter Comments: Read the opposition to developing Rammell Field

1. Cranbrook needs Rammell Field as a community amenity 2. If it was left in Perpetuityfor the people of Cranbrook, then it should definately not be built on 3. This is an ideal opportunity to utilise this great space even further for the good of locals and visitors alike.rarely do communities have such an ideal space available to them, the possibilities should have the parish council buzzing with ideas! The housing requirements should concentrate ...

Why has the Parish Council Changed its mind?

At the Cranbrook & Sissinghurst Parish Council meeting held on 8 th March, the Parish Council voted to ignore 1500 local residents and the application to the County Council to designate the Rammell Field as a "Village Green”. Last year paradoxically, on October 13 th 2011 at a Parish Council meeting, the Council instead supported the residents seeking to preserve Rammel Field as a "Village Green, as proposed by Peter North and seconded by ...

1700 (so far) have supported saving the field from development

The "Save Rammell Field" Campaign team has collected more than 1500 signatures in support of opposing any development of the Memorial Field. This figure is growing and represents currently 25% of the population of Cranbrook.

As part of the process to prevent such an occurrence of development there has been an application for the field to be designated as a "Village Green". See separate blog definition

What is "Village Green" Status?

Apart from the general use of the term, Village Green has a specific legal meaning in England and Wales, and also includes the less common term Town Greens. Town and village greens were defined in the Commons Registration Act 1965, as amended by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, as land: which has been allotted by or under any Act for the exercise or recreation of the inhabitants of any locality ...

Who owns Rammell Field?

The lawyers acting on behalf of Cranbrook School were asked to see the full title within the deeds as to ownership of the Rammell Field. We still await their reply. We believe the Field is owned in Trust for usage as a Playing Field and most certainly not for commercial development.

In the begining - Can there be any doubt? - Background

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is planning to build 300 homes in Cranbrook and Sissinghurst. The Cranbrook School War Memorial Playing Field is a possible site for a number of new houses. It seems, Cranbrook School is looking to sell the field for development.
